Episode Two: HGTV’s Design Star
It has to happen, doesn’t it? Someone has to be the first contestant eliminated from every competitive show. Nobody wants to be that person, but it’s going to happen.
It was a great first episode. The designers were thrown in front of the camera right away to showcase their skills…or lack thereof. Karl went first and didn’t feel strong about his performance. Personally, I thought he did pretty dang well for his first time.
We also witnessed a ringer–a former reporter with tremendous television experience, and killer confidence. Watch out for Cathy.
The first design challenge had the contestants working in pairs to decorate the penthouse they would be residing in for the duration of the show.
You have to love the first couple of episodes of competition shows…they remind me of your first week of work in a brand new job. It’s a time to meet co-workers and learn their quirks personalities .
One professional painter, a handyman, a budget to shop with, and three days later, it was time to go up in front of the judges. No. Pressure.
In the end, Karl came back and redeemed himself with his fantastic painted wall, and earned the first win!
Miss Blanche went home for her questionable application of tealight holders on the wall. Didn’t I tell you there would moments when you would be scratching your head?
Episode two of Design Star airs tonight at 9pm/8c on HGTV. What will they make them design next?
