Mixed Media–focus on numbers
As you may or may not know, my “day” job is at a preschool. It is a place that holds constant sources of inspiration for me. This week, we concentrated on numbers, and it reminded me of a piece I created with my math savvy kiddos (both at home and school) in mind.

This was a stash busting project for sure. I’ve had the chipboard and numbers for a very long time. I painted the chipboard rectangle with white acrylic gesso, and dressed it up with eyelets.

I love this paper–it’s excellent for a project such as this. I cut straight edges on three sides, and made one side fancy for some interest. After the gesso was dry, I used Mod Podge to glue it down.

This piece was from a wood matching game that my kiddos outgrew. I painted it with gesso, and sliced the paper to make my own equation. Old game piece plus scrapbook paper equals cool three dimensional effect.

I used glue dots to apply the numbers. The center square is a larger fragment from Tim Holtz. I hand wrote the phrase and glued that paper with Diamond Glaze.
Who knew math could be cool and fashionable?
