The desk that "schooled" me
I thought I’d re-visit a project that I did way before I started my blog. Thank goodness I had the presence of mind to take before and after pictures. This old school desk belonged to my husband and his family. We have two of them, but refinishing one was a lot of work, and I’m still on an extended break from finishing the second.
Like my messy garage? Hey, if I can make even one person feel better about the condition of their garage because of this post…then I’ve done my good deed for the day!
It needed a thorough scrubbing and sanding. The metal on the base was pretty rusty. Afterwards, I painted it with a metal sealer. Because this went into my daughter’s room, the base was then painted purple.
Hey look! Another messy room. Who knew I would be putting these photos online someday? Not me, apparently.
I sanded the wood top and chair, and painted them an antique white. I sealed it with a polycrylic finish, and lightly sanded in-between coats so it was very smooth.
It came out pretty cute and cleaned up. There are definitely things I would do differently when I decide to tackle the second desk (whenever that is). I would spray paint the base, instead of hand paint it-even though it did come out nicely. I believe it would just be easier.
Also, I refurbished this during the summer months, and found that by moving it into the AC, the paint cured quicker. Thank you for taking a walk back in time with me through my messy archives. I’ll be sure to let you know when I’m working on that second desk…
Thought I’d link this to these great places:
